Four Plaintiffs File Class Action Against United Collection Bureau
Umana et al v. United Collection Bureau, Inc.
Filed: May 22, 2018 ◆§ 2:18cv3010
Four consumers allege United Collection Bureau sent them notices that failed to contain essential information needed to calculate how much is owed on debts.
New York
Four plaintiffs have put their names on a proposed class action against defendant United Collection Bureau, Inc. The plaintiffs claim the company mailed collection notices that failed to provide enough information to allow them to determine how much needed to be paid to resolve their debts at any given point in the future. Filed in New York federal court, the lawsuit alleges the defendant failed to detail in the letters, among other items, the plaintiffs’ applicable interest rates, dates of accrual of interest, the nature of “other charges,” and what parts of the individuals’ debts are attributable to principal, interest or fees. All told, United Collection Bureau failed to convey the plaintiffs’ debt amounts clearly and from the perspective of the least sophisticated consumer, the case claims.
