A proposed class action lawsuit claims the companies behind K-Y Jelly have failed to warn consumers that their lubricant products contain dangerous per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), commonly known as “forever chemicals.”

The 26-page fraud lawsuit alleges that although K-Y Jelly is represented as a “body friendly” and “gentle formula,” independent testing has revealed the product and other K-Y lubricants contain PFAS—a group of synthetic chemicals associated with numerous harmful health and environmental effects.
According to the suit, PFAS are dangerous at even low levels of exposure because they accumulate and persist in the body over time. Exposure to these toxic chemicals has been linked to decreased fertility, increased risk of asthma, hormonal disruptions and various cancers, the case shares.
The presence of PFAS in the products at issue is particularly concerning given that the toxic substances are absorbed through the skin during sexual intercourse, the complaint contends.
“The female and male genitals have delicate tissues that are more prone to absorbing chemicals than other areas of the body,” the filing relays. “When genitalia comes in contact with lubricants, PFAS can be absorbed readily.”
The class action suit claims that by failing to warn consumers of the presence of PFAS in K-Y lubricants, defendants and brand owners Reckitt Benckiser LLC and RB Health (US) LLC have misled shoppers and induced them to buy products they otherwise would not have purchased.
“No reasonable consumer would expect that a product marketed for use during sexual intercourse on female and male sensitive areas would contain dangerous PFAS, which are indisputably linked to harmful health effects in humans,” the case charges.
The K-Y Jelly lawsuit looks to represent anyone in the United States who purchased the lubricant products during the applicable statute of limitations period.
