Mejia v. Uber Technologies, Inc.
Filed: August 11, 2017 ◆§ 0:17-cv-61617-BB
A Florida Uber driver claims the company's policy prohibiting concealed firearms violates his rights under state law.
A man who’s driven for Uber Technologies, Inc. since March 2016 has sued the company over its policy of prohibiting drivers and passengers from carrying concealed weapons and firearms even though doing so is legal in Florida. The driver’s proposed class action claims the man wishes to carry a firearm in his car while he drives for Uber, and that the company’s no-concealed-carry policy violates his rights under Florida’s Preservation and Protection of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms in Motor Vehicles Act of 2008.
The proposed class covered by the lawsuit includes anyone possessing a license to carry a concealed weapon or firearm and offering transportation services through Uber within Florida from August 11, 2017 onward.
