A proposed class action filed in California claims defendant Financial Credit Network, Inc. violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) when it used automatic dialing technology to place unsolicited calls to consumers’ cell phones. The defendant, a debt collection agency, allegedly made thousands of unauthorized phone calls—which pertained to alleged debts owed to San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E)—to consumers nationwide. The plaintiff claims she began receiving the calls despite having never given the defendant her cell phone number.
