A proposed class action out of Alabama claims defendants Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. and FCA US LLC broke the law by marketing its cars as “clean” and eco-friendly even though the parties allegedly used a “defeat device” to dupe federal emissions testing.
“Instead of delivering on their promise of superior fuel economy coupled with low emissions, [the defendants] devised a way to make it appear that their cars did what they said they would when, in fact, they did not,” the 30-page lawsuit says.
According to the complaint, the defeat device allegedly installed on 2014-2016 Dodge Ram 1500 and 2014-2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel models simply “shuts off” emissions controls while the vehicles undergo testing.
