Another class action has been dealt to FCA US LLC—Fiat Chrysler—over its allegedly dangerous gear shifter, which can be found in certain newer vehicle models. Filed this time in California, the suit alleges the electronic gear shift mechanism in Fiat’s 2012-2014 Dodge Chargers and Chrysler 300s and 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees is dangerously defective. Details of the case note the electronic shifter has no “position feedback” to the driver to alert him or her that the car is actually in park and safe to exit. It is worth noting this reported defect is alleged to have caused more than 300 accidents, one of which being the death of actor Anton Yelchin, who was killed when his 2015 Keep Grand Cherokee pinned him against a brick mailbox after rolling down his driveway.
