A proposed class action has been filed against Central Collection Corporation over a Wisconsin woman’s claims that the debt collector failed to clearly state the amount of her alleged debt. The defendant supposedly sent the plaintiff a collection letter referencing a medical debt she incurred from Bell Ambulance, Inc. According to the complaint, the letter listed a “total due” of $887.37 but made no mention of interest or other charges that would cause the balance to increase.
The suit argues that the plaintiff’s account was, in fact, subject to interest, as evidenced by a previous letter the woman had received that listed her balance at $878.60. The defendant’s alleged failure to indicate that the account was accruing interest would leave the unsophisticated consumer unsure as to how much he or she needed to pay to resolve the debt, the case says.
