Lustig v. Trans Union, LLC
Filed: March 16, 2017 ◆§ 2:17-cv-01175
Trans Union is facing a lawsuit for supposed violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The complaint suggests that Trans Union misrepresents its source of information.
Consumer reporting agency Trans Union is facing a lawsuit for supposed violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The complaint suggests that Trans Union obtains public records information from private vendors rather than directly from courthouses or government offices; consequently, the information the company provides to consumers in its reports is not always up to date and accurate, the suit says. The complaint further claims that the defendant misrepresents the source of its information in consumer reports by citing the names and addresses of courthouses and government offices rather than its vendors. The plaintiff claims that Trans Union included a civil judgment in his personal credit report that had been dismissed almost two years prior, causing his credit history to be misrepresented to his creditors. The complaint argues that “disclosure of the true source of a [credit reporting agency’s] information is vital so that certain credit reporting errors that originate at the source can be corrected, and so that consumers always know who is furnishing important credit information about them.”
