Statewide Collections, Inc. and four intertwined companies that do business under that name are facing a proposed class action filed by 11 plaintiffs who claim the enterprise has violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). According to the lawsuit, the defendants, who share the same office and conduct business through each other in Oklahoma, have failed to respond to letters mailed by the plaintiffs informing Statewide Collections that the individuals dispute their supposed respective debts and request validation and verification for all amounts owed.
“Over a month thereafter, respectively, [the plaintiffs] having received nothing in the way of the requested information, ran their credit reports,” the case reads. “Statewide Collections, Inc. failed to mark the tradelines on [the plaintiffs’] credit reports as disputed, despite having reported the alleged debts to consumer reporting agencies after [the plaintiffs] submitted their respective written disputes to Statewide Collections, Inc.”
As to the alleged timeline of all this, the case says the defendants authored tradelines on the plaintiffs’ credit reports between November 2016 and April 2017, during which time the plaintiffs supposedly sent their disputes and verification requests to Statewide Collections.
