Wisconsin
Northland Group, Inc., Absolute Resolutions Corporation, and Absolute Resolutions V LLC have been named as defendants in a proposed class action lawsuit alleging several violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. The plaintiff in the case claims she received three collection letters from the defendants that misled her as to whom she purportedly owed the debt by naming three different entities – Absolute Resolutions Corp., HSBC Card Services Inc., and Razor Capital – as her “creditor.”
The suit further argues that the letters each contained a settlement offer supposedly authorized by HSBC, which the complaint alleges no longer owns the debt. The case claims the plaintiff, after reading the letters, could have been led to believe that a payment of the settlement amount would settle her account only to be subjected to the defendants’ continued efforts to collect the full amount.
Finally, the complaint says the statute of limitations on the plaintiff’s debt had expired.
