The 79-page TRC Talent Solutions data breach lawsuit alleges that negligent cybersecurity on the part of the Atlanta-based staffing company resulted in the unauthorized disclosure of more than 158,000 people’s names and Social Security numbers.
The data breach suit says that after TRC discovered suspicious activity on certain computer systems, a subsequent investigation determined that an unauthorized third party had gained access to the company’s network and the sensitive information stored therein between March 25 and April 12, 2024.
Despite TRC’s legal obligation to safeguard the data it housed, the defendant “recklessly” failed to implement proper cybersecurity measures and left the stored information “accessible, unprotected, and vulnerable” to theft by cybercriminals, the case claims.
The complaint stresses that TRC data breach victims are now at an ongoing risk of being targeted for cybercrimes and must vigilantly monitor their financial accounts to protect themselves against fraud and identity theft.
To make matters worse, the company waited more than a month after the incident was purportedly detected to begin notifying impacted individuals, the filing charges.
The case contends that the defendant’s offer to victims of “abbreviated, non-automatic” credit monitoring services is insufficient given the lifelong harm they now face following the data breach.
The lawsuit looks to represent anyone in the United States who received a notice letter from TRC informing them that their private information was compromised in the data breach.
