According to the 36-page Katz Nannis + Solomon data breach lawsuit, the Massachusetts-based firm did not maintain necessary data security practices or adequately train its employees in cybersecurity. The case alleges that the company’s negligence is to blame for a breach of its computer systems that allowed an unauthorized third party to obtain certain files containing current and former clients’ private information.
The data breach suit shares that at least individuals’ names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account information, credit and debit card numbers and medical details were compromised as a result of the hack.
As the complaint tells it, deficient data security on Katz Nannis + Solomon’s part put the stored information in a “vulnerable position” and made it an “easy target[] for cybercriminals.” Indeed, the firm apparently had “no effective means” of preventing, stopping or mitigating unauthorized intrusion into its network, which allowed data thieves “unrestricted access” to clients’ sensitive information between November 21 and November 27, 2023, the filing claims.
What’s more, Katz Nannis + Solomon waited to begin notifying victims until early this month, more than nine months after it purportedly detected the data breach, the class action lawsuit relays. By keeping impacted individuals “in the dark” for so long, the company deprived them of the opportunity to take timely steps to limit the harm caused by the disclosure of their information, the suit argues.
Katz Nannis + Solomon, PC has “done little” to make amends for the incident, the case charges, contesting that the firm’s offer to victims of limited credit and identity monitoring services is insufficient in the face of the lifelong damage that has been done.
The Katz Nannis + Solomon, PC lawsuit looks to represent anyone in the United States whose private information was compromised in the data breach discovered by the defendant in November 2023, including individuals who received notice of the incident.
