The eight-page debt collection lawsuit was filed by an Illinois consumer who says Greeting Team, LLC, which does business as Customer Care Global, contacted him three times by text message and email in August 2024 seeking to collect a high-interest loan he had been issued by third-party lender WithU.
The suit relays that the plaintiff’s loan had an interest rate “greatly exceeding” 36 percent, which, according to the case, rendered the loan void and unenforceable under Illinois’ Predatory Loan Prevention Act.
The case contends that by attempting to collect an allegedly void loan, Customer Care Global violated the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
“As the loans at issue were legally unenforceable, no attempts to collect them were lawful,” the complaint charges.
The Customer Care Global lawsuit looks to represent any Illinois residents from whom the company attempted to collect a loan with an interest rate in excess of 36 percent after March 23, 2021 using a communication sent within the last year.
