Run Them Sweet, LLC v. CPA Global Limited et al
Filed: October 27, 2016 ◆§ 1:16-cv-01347-TSE-TCB
CPA Global Limited, the world's largest intellectual property management company, has been hit with a class action out of California.
CPA Global Limited, the world’s largest intellectual property management company, has been hit with a class action out of California alleging it overcharged the plaintiff for fees related to overseas patent management. Plaintiff Run Them Sweet, LLC, a medical diagnostics company with a focus on nutrition, holds U.S. patents, as well as patent applications registered in foreign countries to which they must pay annual fees. According to the complaint, the plaintiff hired the defendant to handle the payments in exchange for a fixed fee per patent. As per the contract, the defendant was to pass on the registration costs in the foreign country to the plaintiff, yet allegedly overcharged by “inflating certain fees and outright inventing others.”
The plaintiff claims CPA Global’s invoices are intentionally vague so they do not have to provide a clear breakdown of its billing practices, making it nearly impossible for clients to know if they’re being overcharged.
