Contract Callers, Inc. is on the receiving end of a proposed class action lawsuit that claims the debt collector charged an illegal “processing fee” for online payments. According to the complaint, the plaintiff received a collection notice from the defendant informing her that she could make payments online for a processing fee of $5. The suit argues that Contract Callers “has no legal or contractual right” to charge the extra fee and that the letter, as a result, failed to comply with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
