Matthews et al v. Trans Union, LLC
Filed: April 21, 2017 ◆§ 2:17-cv-01825
Trans Union, LLC is the defendant in a proposed class action that claims it fails to accurately report the most updated public records information on consumer reports.
Trans Union, LLC is the defendant in a proposed class action that claims it fails to accurately report the most updated public records information on consumer reports and inadequately handles consumer disputes. The plaintiffs argue that the IRS withdrew their tax liens, but that Trans Union continued to report the liens and harm the plaintiffs’ credit standing. The suit claims the plaintiffs submitted three different disputes to Trans Union regarding the inaccurate information, but the credit reporting agency allegedly refused to remove the tax liens from the reports. The suit argues that Trans Union obtains its public records information from a third party instead of courthouses and government agencies and that it has “no procedure to check the current status of a public record.” From the complaint:
“Trans Union’s conduct was a result of its deliberate policies and practices, was intentionally accomplished through intended procedures, and was carried out in reckless disregard for a consumer’s rights.”
