Wisconsin
Jefferson Capital Systems LLC is on the receiving end of a proposed class action alleging the debt collector failed to send a Wisconsin consumer a written notice containing required information concerning her purported debt. According to the suit, the defendant’s initial communication with the plaintiff was a phone call she received on January 9, 2018. At no time, the suit argues, did the defendant send the plaintiff a written notice informing her of the amount of her debt, the name of her creditor, and how to dispute the debt or request validation. The case claims federal law requires that debt collectors disclose this information to consumers “within five days after the initial communication.”
