ComplyRight Hit with Another Class Action Lawsuit Over 2018 Data Breach
Last Updated on August 17, 2018
Roberts v. Complyright, Inc.
Filed: August 7, 2018 ◆§ 0:18cv61836
ComplyRight is staring down another lawsuit filed after a data breach hit the company's servers between April 20 and May 22, 2018.
ComplyRight is staring down further legal trouble in the wake of a data breach that reportedly saw consumers’ sensitive personal data stolen from the cloud-based HR and tax preparation company’s servers between April 20 and May 22, 2018.
The lawsuit decries the defendant for holding itself out as a company fortified by several layers of data protection. Contrary to its own boasts, ComplyRight’s failure to maintain even adequate data security measures is to blame for the exposure of consumers’ names, addresses, Social Security numbers and other identifying details, the case argues.
According to the complaint, “a massive amount of information” was stolen from the defendant as a result of its alleged misconduct.
“Victims have had their PI [personal information] compromised, their privacy violated, an increased risk of exposure to fraud and identity theft, a loss of control over their personal and financial information, and have otherwise been injured.”
