Cranor v. Classified Advertising Ventures, Llc et al
Filed: August 20, 2018 ◆§ 4:18cv651
A lawsuit claims Classified Advertising Ventures and Tradeco Media Group placed at least eight robocalls and sent numerous texts to a consumer trying to sell his car.
Missouri
Classified Advertising Ventures, LLC and Tradeco Media Group, LLC are in the crosshairs of a proposed class action filed by a man who claims the companies placed at least eight unauthorized robocalls in addition to sending numerous text messages to his cell phone after he listed his car for sale on Cars.com and Craigslist.org.
According to the complaint, the defendants are in the business of buying and selling cars, trucks, RVs, classic automobiles and boats through a nationwide network of classified ad lists and websites. The plaintiff claims he listed his car for sale in Cars.com and Craigslist.org in May 2018 and was contacted by the defendants just days later despite never providing the companies with express written consent to do so.
The case further claims that in late May, the plaintiff confirmed to the defendants via email that they did not have permission to contact his cell phone.
“[The defendants] intentionally ‘scraped’ telephone numbers from ads on websites such as Cars.com and Craigslist.org for the purpose and with the intent of sending mass text messages to those numbers without first obtaining express consent or determining whether the numbers were assigned to a cellular telephone service,” the complaint alleges.
