Taishan Gypsum Co. Ltd. and six other companies are the defendants in a class action filed over allegedly defective Chinese-made drywall. The 36-page lawsuit claims the lineup of defendants manufactured and sold defective drywall that contained gypsum, which, when it chemically reacts with other components of the drywall, releases noxious, harmful sulfuric compounds and other gases into the air. According to case documents, although the drywall technically does its job as far as a building component, the product is defective because of its damaging side effects.
