A class action lawsuit filed in New York claims Fiat Chrysler has jeopardized consumer safety by implementing a 'defective and dangerous' gear-shifting mechanism.
A class action lawsuit filed in New York claims Fiat Chrysler has jeopardized consumer safety by implementing a “defective and dangerous” gear-shifting mechanism in certain newer model year vehicles. The 33-page complaint lists 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees, 2012-2014 Dodge Chargers and 2012-2014 Chrysler 300 sedans as having the reportedly defective Monostable electronic gear shift (the E-shift system) and not the traditional “PRND” shift found in most automatic transmission cars. Plaintiffs describe the E-shift mechanism as counterintuitive, as it has “created an unreasonably dangerous risk” where drivers could mistakenly fail to put vehicles in park while they’re still running. In April 2016, Fiat Chrysler recalled more than 1.1 million cars worldwide due to E-shift concerns.
