Filed: December 12, 2018 ◆§ 3:18-cv-01034
A proposed class action filed in Wisconsin argues that Credit Bureau Data, Inc.’s company name falsely suggests the company is a credit reporting agency.
A proposed class action filed in Wisconsin argues that Credit Bureau Data, Inc.’s company name is deceptive and misleading in that it suggests the company is a credit reporting agency when, in fact, it operates only as a debt collector.
Behind the suit is an individual who says she received numerous letters from the defendant that left her unsure as to whether her account had been reported to the “non-existent ‘credit bureau.’” The case argues that the defendant’s name intimidates consumers by implying that the company monitors their financial data. In reality, the suit says, the debt collector has “nothing to do with the assembly or evaluation of consumer credit information.”
