Wisconsin
A Wisconsin consumer has filed suit against United Collection Bureau Inc. (UCB) and Department Stores National Bank (DSNB) over claims that the debt collectors sent her contradictory letters that misrepresented the amount of her alleged debt. According to the complaint, DSNB sent the plaintiff an account statement indicating she owed a “minimum payment” on her balance by a specific date. A few days later, the plaintiff allegedly received a collection letter from UCB that listed her “current account balance” and made no mention of a minimum payment. The suit argues that the letter falsely represented that the entire balance of the plaintiff’s debt had been accelerated and was due when the previous letter indicated only a minimum payment was owed.
