Class Action Claims Thrive Causemetics’ Charitable Donation Promises are False

Barker v. Thrive Causemetics, Inc. et al.
Filed: October 5, 2018 ◆§ 2:18-cv-01470
A class action filed against Thrive Causematics, Inc. alleges that the charity-linked luxury cosmetics company fails to follow through with its cornerstone promise of donating one product to a woman in need for every product purchased.
Thrive Causemetics, Inc. and its owner have been named in a proposed class action recently removed to Washington federal court. The lawsuit alleges that the charity-linked luxury cosmetics company fails to follow through with its cornerstone promise of donating one product to a woman in need for every product purchased.
The plaintiff says she bought a product from Thrive in 2017 under the assumption that she was contributing to the company’s charitable mission of donating the same product to a woman with cancer. The lawsuit argues, however, that the company’s claims regarding its charitable activities are simply not true. From the complaint:
“In communicating with consumers, Thrive repeatedly omits information that a person of ordinary caution would find material—namely, that the company fails to donate to a woman in need one product for every product purchased.”
The case argues that consumers are willing to pay more for a product linked to charity and paid premium prices for Thrive’s products under the false impression that they were helping those in need.
