Johnson v. Nissan North America, Inc. et al
Filed: February 1, 2017 ◆§ 4:17-cv-00517-SBA
A proposed class action lawsuit filed against Nissan claims that it knew or should have known that certain vehicles' panoramic sunroofs suffered from an alleged defect.
A 54-page proposed class action lawsuit filed against Nissan North America, Inc. and Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. claims the companies knew or should have known that certain vehicles’ panoramic sunroofs suffered from an alleged defect that could cause them to spontaneously shatter. Filed in California, the complaint claims Nissan’s engineers failed to meet certain challenges in replacing “metal portions of automobile roofs with large plates of glass,” which has resulted in at least three manufacturers issuing safety recalls.
“The shattering events are so powerful that startled drivers compare it to the sound of a gunshot, after which glass fragments rain down upon the occupants of the vehicle, sometimes while driving at highway speeds,” the lawsuit says.
