Delacruz v. Iona College
Filed: September 24, 2017 ◆§ 1:17-cv-07257-JPO
A lawsuit filed in New York claims Iona.edu is not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and is therefore discriminatory toward blind users.
A proposed class action out of New York claims Iona College’s website is not fully accessible to blind and visually impaired individuals. The lawsuit, claiming violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), alleges www.Iona.edu is incompatible with screen-reading software commonly used by visually impaired internet users. As a result of the alleged accessibility obstacles, the lawsuit claims prospective visually impaired students are unable to learn more about the school’s location and hours, curriculum, programs of instruction, admission requirements, and obtain other vital information. Summarily, the complaint claims the access barriers found on Iona.edu have deterred the plaintiff from visiting the school.
