Filed: November 14, 2016 ◆§ 1:16-cv-08824
A legally blind woman has filed a class action lawsuit in New York claiming Belleclaire Hotel, L.L.C. is responsible for 'systemic civil rights violations.'
A legally blind woman has filed a class action lawsuit in New York claiming Belleclaire Hotel, L.L.C. is responsible for “systemic civil rights violations” because of its website’s non-compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). According to the 26-page complaint, hotelbelleclaire.com contains numerous access barriers that make it nearly impossible for blind customers to navigate around the site, much less complete a business transaction to book a hotel room. The plaintiff claims the boutique hotel’s website prevents blind people from utilizing essential keyboard and screen-reading software due to its reportedly illegal accessibility barriers.
The proposed class covers all legally blind individuals in the U.S. who have attempted to access hotelbelleclaire.com and were “denied access to the enjoyment of goods and services” offered by the defendant.
