The 10-page lawsuit claims the auto parts manufacturer has failed to adequately test for and prevent the migration of toxic chemicals from its facilities into the soil and groundwater beneath Portageville, and acted with “complete indifference and conscious disregard” for the health and safety of residents.
As a result of SRG’s negligence, those in the area have been exposed to dangerous carcinogenic chemicals and metals that include hexavalent chromium, chromium, PFAS, nickel and more, suffering systemic damage to their health, the suit charges.
The plaintiff, a Portageville resident, was exposed to the toxic substances in groundwater well-drawn drinking water for about 35 years, the case says.
According to the complaint, SRG should have known its actions put Portageville citizens at risk and thus should have taken reasonable steps to prevent the alleged damage.
The lawsuit looks to represent all Missouri residents who were exposed to toxic contaminants that migrated from SRG properties in Portageville, Missouri since February 1, 2013.
Among other relief, the case asks the court to order SRG to completely and immediately disclose “all studies, reports, analyses, data, compilations” and other information related to the migration of toxic substances from its Portageville facility; an order barring the company from attempting to induce any proposed class member into signing a document that releases any legal claims; and an order directing the defendant to “take all reasonable and sufficient steps to correct the potentially hazardous conditions” it allegedly created.
