A class action has been filed against City Furniture, Inc. claiming the company’s website is not in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Filed in Florida, the lawsuit says CityFurniture.com is nearly impossible for blind or visually impaired individuals to use due to accessibility barriers. The plaintiff claims the defendant’s site “does not properly interact with screen reader software,” nor does it provide visually impaired consumers any other accommodations allowing them to browse the site or make purchases without assistance.
The complaint notes the international website standards organization W3C has published Version 2.0 of its Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0 AA), widely accepted guidelines web developers use to make sites that are compatible with assistive software. The defendant’s website does not meet WCAG 2.0 AA specifications, the lawsuit claims.
