The City of Fremont v. FieldTurf USA, Inc.
Filed: August 30, 2017 ◆§ 4:17-cv-05053
Fremont, CA is the latest city to bring a lawsuit against FieldTurf USA alleging the company's products fail prematurely and are defective and unsafe.
Embattled artificial turf manufacturer FieldTurf USA, Inc. is facing a proposed class action filed by the city of Fremont, California that alleges the company sold the municipality two turf fields that began to display abnormal signs of wear and tear merely three years after their 2007 installation. The city claims that after bringing up the issue to the defendant, FieldTurf assured that any damage to the fields was just ordinary wear and tear, despite an independent consultant’s conclusion that the surface was “defective and unsafe.”
On FieldTurf’s overall legal troubles, the lawsuit asserts the company “specifically knew that its fields would not last for the full eight-year warranty period due to structural inadequacies,” yet still told prospective customers that its product, more specifically its “monofilament” surfaces, would last at least 10 years.
