CBE Group, Inc. is the defendant in a proposed class action filed by a New York man who claims the debt collector sent him a letter that failed to comply with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). The man allegedly received a collection letter from the defendant on behalf of Verizon Wireless that stated he owed $798.67 as a “Collection Fee.” The suit argues that this fee was not authorized by the plaintiff’s contract nor permitted by law. Furthermore, the complaint claims the defendant’s letter unlawfully failed to inform the plaintiff whether his account was continuing to accrue extra fees that would cause the balance to increase.
