A proposed class action claims defaulted debt collection agencies Cavalry Portfolio Services, LLC and Cavalry SPV I, LLC violated terms of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) by using automated telephone dialing equipment to call consumers’ cell phones without their consent. Filed in Wisconsin, the lawsuit alleges the defendants repeatedly called the plaintiff’s cell phone—even though he had never provided the companies or the original creditor with his new number— and utilized a prerecorded message with the help of “skip-tracing,” a process debt collectors use to locate an individual’s whereabouts.
