Squaretrade, Inc. is facing a proposed class action lawsuit filed by a California woman who claims the debt collector illegally recorded her cell phone calls without her knowledge or consent. The plaintiff says she received two calls from the defendant concerning a debt she allegedly owed for a protection plan the woman says she attempted to cancel. According to the suit, the plaintiff discovered the calls were being recorded only after she asked the defendant’s representatives at the end of the conversations. “Had [the plaintiff] received a recording disclosure at the outset of the call…” the complaint reads, “[the plaintiff] would have not discussed such private information with [the defendant].”
