California
Bridgepoint Education, Inc. is facing a proposed class action filed by a consumer who alleges the education services company violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) by placing several unsolicited calls to her cell phone.
Filed in California, the lawsuit says the defendant carries out telemarketing campaigns to meet student enrollment quotas for Ashford University and University of the Rockies. The plaintiff alleges the company placed 19 autodialed calls to her cell phone without first obtaining express written consent to do so. According to the suit, 11 of the calls were made after the woman explicitly requested that the company stop contacting her. Additionally, the suit notes the calls were placed despite the plaintiff’s phone number being on the National Do Not Call Registry.
