Audi has been hit with a proposed class action in California over allegedly illegal “defeat devices.” The suit claims that Audi installed software that can detect when the vehicles are undergoing emissions testing and will then “program the car to shift into each higher gear sooner, thus reducing engine RPM, fuel consumption, and CO2 emissions.” According to the suit, Audis equipped with a ZF 8HP55 “AL551” transmission are affected, including certain Audi S4, S5, S6 and S7 models.
