ARS National Services, Inc. is the defendant in a proposed class action lawsuit that alleges violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. The plaintiff claims the company sent her a debt collection letter that contained her “balance,” but did not indicate whether the amount included interest or fees, or whether it would increase due to these extra charges. The letter is “deceptive,” according to the complaint, because it can be interpreted to have more than one meaning. The suit argues that the plaintiff was unable to determine the true amount of her alleged debt and could not make an informed decision about how to respond.
