Filed: October 31, 2016 ◆§ 3:16-cv-06182
Yet another class action suit has been filed against Sony over an alleged disc drive defect found in PlayStation 4 consoles.
Yet another class action suit has been filed against Sony over an alleged disc drive defect found in PlayStation 4 consoles that reportedly causes the disc drives to attempt to eject on an infinite loop—even when no disc is present. Filed in California, the 25-page suit claims Sony has long been aware of the alleged defect, as evident by a warranty extension issued only in the Netherlands in August 2016. According to the complaint, a faulty chip within the consoles can misread levels of static electricity in the air, which can cause the machines to continuously try to eject the contents of the disc drive. Plaintiffs’ counsel stated in the complaint that complaints online about the defective disc drives date as far back as September 2013.
