Alliance CAS, LLC is facing a proposed class action lawsuit filed by a Florida man who claims the debt collector charged him an illegal “convenience fee” for online payments. According to the complaint, the defendant represented in at least 12 emails that it would charge a fee of $5.00 for online payments, and the plaintiff claims he was charged $7.50 on several occasions. The suit argues that the defendant was not authorized by law or by the agreement creating the debt to add additional fees to the plaintiff’s payments and that the charges were therefore illegal.
