AL Consumer Claims Experian Lies About Sources of Consumer Information

Peters v. Experian Information Solutions Inc
Filed: July 28, 2017 ◆§ 2:17-cv-01270-SGC
Experian, one of the Big Three credit reporters, is facing a lawsuit alleging it isn't entirely truthful about the sources of information in consumer reports.
Big Three credit reporting firm Experian Information Solutions, Inc. is the defendant in a proposed class action filed in Alabama that claims it violated federal law by furnishing consumer credit reports that contained inaccuracies. More specifically, the lawsuit, filed over alleged Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) violations, claims Experian, despite reportedly not retrieving public records from courthouses or governmental offices for many years, falsely lists the names of courthouses and government offices as the sources of information on its records. From the lawsuit:
“The public records that Experian receives from its vendors are not the actual court or taxing authority records. Rather, it receives a distilled version of those records, which does not include all the information or most up-to-date information available at the actual courthouses or government offices where the true records are housed.”
Per the lawsuit, Experian has allegedly caused “widespread harm” to Alabama consumers as a result of its failure to report the most up-to-date status of paid or satisfied civil judgments, as well as failing to remove from reports civil judgments that have been nullified.
