The 42-page Acadian Ambulance Service data breach lawsuit says the medical transport company became aware of “unexpected activity that disrupted the operability of certain computer systems.” In July 2024, reports surfaced that Acadian Ambulance, which has locations in Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas, had fallen victim to a major ransomware attack, and to date the defendant’s disclosures about the data breach have been “deficient,” the case says.
The data breach lawsuit, filed on August 2, says Acadian Ambulance has failed to disclose the details of the hack and its investigation into the incident, with questions remaining as to “the full extent of the Data Breach, the actual data accessed and compromised, and what measures, if any,” the company has taken to secure the information still in its possession.
The complaint cites the website of hacker group Daixin Team, which claims to have stolen 10 million unique records from Acadian Ambulance, in saying employee information and patient names, dates of birth, phone numbers, medical and case histories, employment details, symptoms and suspected drug use were compromised in the Acadian Ambulance data breach.
DataBreaches.net reported on July 23 that it had communicated exclusively with Daixin Team, which claimed to have encrypted 1,000 to 2,000 of Acadian’s servers on June 21 of this year. Daixin Team has reportedly threatened to publicly release the stolen data should its ransom demand go unpaid.
The suit contends that the risk of a data breach was known to Acadian Ambulance and that the company was thus on notice that failing to properly safeguard patient information left the data in a dangerous condition.
“Plaintiff’s and Class Members’ identities are now at risk because of Defendant’s negligent conduct since the Private Information that Defendant collected and maintained is now in the hands of data thieves,” the lawsuit charges.
The Acadian Ambulance data breach lawsuit looks to cover all individuals in the United States whose private information was compromised in the data breach Acadian Ambulance disclosed this year.
