Filed: May 22, 2019 ◆§ 5:19cv215
ABB and ABB Motors and Mechanical face a lawsuit after sensitive information logged in the companies’ health benefits program was compromised in a data breach.
North Carolina
ABB Inc. and ABB Motors and Mechanical Inc. find themselves as defendants in a proposed class action after clients’ personal details logged in the companies’ health benefits program was compromised in a data breach.
According to the case, the breach was the product of an email phishing scheme and affected approximately 18,000 ABB health benefits plan participants, including employees and their families. The defendants allegedly failed to adequately guard plan members’ sensitive information, such as member IDs, Social Security numbers, and direct deposit information, which the lawsuit says were all compromised in the security breach.
Additionally, the suit claims the companies failed to notify potentially affected individuals quickly enough after discovering the breach. Consequently, plan members, the complaint says, have to spend time and money protecting themselves from “identity theft, credit and reputational injury, false tax claims, or even extortion they now face.”
