Yockey et al v. The 3M Company et al
Filed: October 26, 2016 ◆§ 2:16-cv-05553-PBT
The 3M Company is facing a new class action lawsuit that claims chemicals manufactured by the fire safety technology companies are contaminating drinking water.
The 3M Company and others are facing a new class action lawsuit that claims chemicals and toxins manufactured and sold by the fire safety technology companies are responsible for the contamination of drinking water in Pennsylvania communities. Along with 3M, plaintiffs say Angus Fire, The Ansul Company, Buckeye Fire Protection, Chemguard and National Foam made and sold dangerous chemicals without warning buyers of how their toxic effects could harm the environment and residents. Additionally, it’s alleged the defendants also did not provide chemical buyers with adequate instructions on “how to store, use and dispose of their products to prevent the foreseeable harm to the environment and human health.”
The product at issue is called Aqueious Film Forming Foam (AFFF), which is used by civil and military firefighters on naval bases in Pennsylvania. The complaint says residents near the bases have been consuming well drinking water contaminated with AFFF. In addition to causing adverse health effects, plaintiffs say, the AFFF-contaminated water will put a significant dent in the value of their homes and property, since this information needs to be disclosed when selling a house or refinancing.
