The official website for the Bassett data breach settlement can be found at BassettDataBreach.com.
The settlement agreement with the furniture retailer, which was granted preliminary approval on October 31, 2024, covers a class of approximately 7,614 people who were notified by mail that their private information was potentially compromised in the data breach between July 2021 and September 2023.
To receive a Bassett class action settlement rebate, eligible class members must submit a claim form online or by mail by February 28, 2025.
You can file a claim online on this page, or you may download a PDF claim form to print and return by mail. To submit online, you will need to provide your unique Notice ID and Confirmation Code, which are located on the personalized settlement notice you should have received in the mail or via email.
According to the Bassett Furniture settlement website, class members who file a timely, valid claim form are eligible to receive up to $2,000 in reimbursement per person for “ordinary” losses that are supported by documentation and reasonably linked to the incident. Ordinary losses may include money lost to fraud or identity theft, fees for credit repair services, costs of credit monitoring and other miscellaneous expenses, the site says.
In addition, consumers can submit a claim for up to 10 hours of lost time spent remedying issues related to the data breach, at a rate of $30 per hour, the site relays.
Combined reimbursement for ordinary expenses and lost time will be capped at $2,000 per person, the website adds.
Furthermore, class members may file a claim for up to $10,000 in reimbursement for documented “extraordinary” losses incurred between July 29, 2021 and February 28, 2025 that were “more likely than not” caused by the incident, the site shares.
Consumers may also elect to claim two years of complimentary credit monitoring services, regardless of whether they make a claim for any of the aforementioned Bassett settlement benefits, the website says.
Per the site, class members can choose to forego the above-mentioned benefits in favor of a pro-rated cash payout. Consumers outside of California are entitled to receive a $250 payment, while California residents are eligible to receive $400, the website states. Final payout amounts may increase or decrease depending on the total number of valid claims that are submitted, the site points out. The settlement website emphasizes that class members who file a claim for an alternative cash payout will not be entitled to any of the other benefits.
The court will determine whether to grant final approval to the terms of the Bassett settlement during a hearing scheduled for February 10, 2025. Settlement benefits will be issued to eligible class members only after the deal is approved and becomes final, the site relays.
According to the lawsuit against Bassett, the company’s inadequate data security protocols allowed an unauthorized third party to gain continuous access to its computer systems between July 2021 and April 2023. As a result, the data breach suit contended, individuals’ full names, addresses and financial account information were potentially exposed to cybercriminals.
