The court-approved website for the Cigna class action settlement can be found at COVID-Class-Action-Settlement.com.
The deal covers all members or dependents of a healthcare benefits plan governed by ERISA who submitted a claim to Cigna for reimbursement for COVID-19 testing services obtained on or after March 27, 2020 and before September 1, 2023, and whose claim was approved by Cigna at less than the amount billed by the member’s provider.
According to the settlement agreement, the insurer has agreed to pay $2,908,683 to resolve the Cigna class action lawsuit, which was first filed in May 2022. The settlement fund will be distributed to class members on a pro rata basis after the payment of attorneys’ fees, service awards and administrative costs, the Cigna settlement website says.
Per the site, the class action settlement rebate will cover “approximately 85%” of the difference between the provider’s bill, up to $500 per test, and Cigna’s reimbursement rate for covered COVID-19 tests.
Eligible class members do not have to do anything to receive a share of the Cigna settlement. Checks will be issued automatically to the addresses listed in the insurer’s records, the website relays.
Plan members who spent more than $500 on any covered COVID-19 test can submit a claim form for reimbursement of the amount paid in excess of $500, the site states. Cigna settlement claim forms must be filed online or by mail by April 29, 2025.
To file a claim form online, head to this page. You will need the unique notice ID and confirmation code found on the personalized settlement notice you received in the mail.
Alternatively, you may download the PDF claim form to print and return by mail.
Class members who submit a claim for reimbursement must provide supporting documentation that shows the service provider, service that was provided, date of service, amount billed and proof of payment, the website notes. Consumers who file a valid claim form with the required documentation will receive the same pro-rated share of the settlement fund above $500 for their claim, the site says.
The deal with Cigna was preliminarily approved by the court on January 31, 2025. Next, the court will hold a hearing on May 29 of this year to determine whether to grant final approval to the terms of the settlement.
Cash payments will be issued to eligible class members only if the deal receives ultimate approval, and after any appeals are resolved.
