Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of a recent LG electric stove recall.
On February 6, 2025, LG Electronics recalled nearly a dozen models of electric ranges with front-mounted knobs that can be activated by accident, posing a fire risk. According to the LG stove recall notice, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has received at least 86 reports of the stove knobs being activated unintentionally—resulting in over 28 fires, at least eight minor injuries and three pet deaths.
Some consumers have complained that the recall remedy, a free warning label reminding users to activate the stove’s “Lock Out/Control Lock” function to stop the range from turning on when not in use, is insufficient and fails to actually fix the issue.
As part of their investigation, the attorneys want to speak with California residents who purchased any of the recalled LG stoves. It’s possible that a class action lawsuit could be filed to help buyers recover money and provide a free fix.

LG Stove Knobs Lawsuit Demanded Recall
An LG electric range lawsuit filed in September 2022 sought to force the manufacturer to issue a recall and provide free replacements of electric ranges with knobs that allegedly turned too easily.
According to the lawsuit, the stoves’ defective design—which includes front-mounted knobs that can be inadvertently activated with a “single smooth motion … requiring minimal force and distance”—poses a significant fire risk, rendering the ranges unsafe for their normal and expected use. The case argued that LG Electronics had known about the problem for years due to consumer complaints yet had continued to sell the potentially dangerous stoves without warning buyers of the possible fire risk.
The plaintiff in the case claimed his house nearly burned down when his LG stove “activated without warning” and set an empty UberEATS bag on fire. Though LG promised to send someone to investigate, “no such investigator ever contacted [the plaintiff] or came to his house,” the lawsuit stated.
In March 2023, the LG stove knob lawsuit was sent to arbitration.
Consumer Complaints About LG Stove Knobs
Consumers have posted complaints on online forums such as Reddit and in product reviews about problems with LG electric ranges, including that the knobs turn too easily and can be unintentionally activated by adults, children and pets.
Many people said they noticed on multiple occasions that their stove had been turned on accidentally, with some warning that items on the stovetop or nearby had caught fire.
Below is a sampling of complaints from online reviews [sic throughout]:
We have had numerous problems with this design. My daughter almost accidentally burned the house down. She had their pizza box on the stovetop after they ate, accidentally bumped the knobs and burned the pizza box. Thankfully she saw it before it went up in flames. Needless to say, the knobs are WAY to easy to turn on just standing near the stove.”

purchased 9 months ago, we had our first gathering. Someone placed cake on stove to cut, 1 hr later someone leaned over stove for a fork, resulting in turning on the stove on slightly..... 30 mins later the plastic of the cake container melted onto stove top. When trying to remove sadly the cook top had cooled off and when someone tried scraping it off the cooktop chipped in many areas. VERY upset. The knobs are VERY sensitive. we didnt think someone else would be behind the stove to explain to.”

As others have said, this unit is a fire hazard. The knobs turn on dangerously easy. It will start a fire with the slightest mistouch which is very scary. Stay away! Do not purchase this oven.”

The front buttons are extremely sensitive and brushing against it or even a big dog or toddler could easily turn buttons accidentally!I complained and they said it was made to be sensitive and I should lock it while not in use!First time it burnt my hand tonight my bag was laid on counter when I came in must have swiped it because it caught the bag on fire!As I went to find model number found a small hazard warning underneath the door about the issue I have been having!”

This electric range looks and sounds great, but don't let that fool you! The knobs on front are VERY easy to turn on, meaning that if you simply walk past it, the knobs will turn on without you realizing it. The 1st time it happened, we had a pizza box sitting on the counter, my husband walked by and the element turned on. The heat from the element caught the pizza box on fire. Luckily we were home. We then started noticing how easily they turned. I called the company and said there was no problem, just keep the controls locked. Really??? If you want to cook, you need it unlocked or the controls won't work. 2nd time it caught fire was when I had a pot of sauce simmering on the stove, came over to give it a stir and left the room. Unknowingly, I bumped a knob which turned on another burner. A towel near by went up in flames. This time the flames went as high as the exhaust fan. LG said there was nothing they could do…”

One very major flaw!. Be extremely careful not to even slightly accidentally bump the knobs because they will turn on with the slightest press. I’ve scorched two towels because of this. So now we must remember to lock the burners after every use. I’ve never seen anything like this and would return it if I could. We purchased in mid-June and don’t use it a lot primarily because I just about hate it. I think it’s worthy of a review by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Would never ever buy this again. It has a lot of good features but the safety issue with the burners negates all of that.”

Purchased in November 2021 and noticed that even a slight lean on the front knobs turns on cooktop. Have nearly had 2 fires. We need to constantly lock the front panel to prevent this, but it still happens if oven or other burners are on.”

How Could a Class Action Lawsuit Help?
A class action lawsuit filed over the recalled LG electric ranges could help buyers get back money for the stoves and provide compensation for repairs and damage that may have been caused by the ranges’ knob design.
Class action lawsuits are sometimes filed when a recall is thought to be insufficient, and they can potentially provide additional relief beyond what was offered in the recall.
