JELD-WEN Windows Reviews and Complaints
JELD-WEN window customers have reported complaints that include:
- Drafts
- Mold
- Decay
- Deterioration
- Water leaks
When water leaks through the windows, it reportedly collects between the panes, causing mold to develop.
Other JELD-WEN customers have experienced strong drafts coming through the windows. Furthermore, some customers have reported that their windows have developed a mirror-like gloss, causing the windows (which should be translucent) to reflect images.
Online Complaints
A number of customers have posted complaints online describing serious defects with their JELD-WEN windows. For example, the following customer complaints have been posted on the website of the Better Business Bureau:
“Early on, we had issues with the windows. Some didn’t open and close easily, seals breaking, etc. This summer one of the main living room crank-style windows literally started falling apart. The plastic exterior broke away from the rotting wood beneath. Furthermore, it no longer opens or closes nor does the matching window on the other side of the wall.”
“After 3 to 4 weeks, we noticed that the windows and door had changed color unevenly in many places leaving what looks like dirty patches all over them.”
In addition, JELD-WEN customers have posted the following complaints on GardenWeb.com:
"Our home had JELD-WEN wood clad windows throughout and as it turns out, these windows are pretty much junk. The weather stripping around the windows has cracked and separated on many of the windows, the gas seals have failed on approximately half of the windows, compromising the vapor space and allowing moisture build-up inside those windows, and the Hartford green aluminum frames have turned chalky/milky in color.”“There are tons of problems with JELD-WEN windows and doors, the worst of which is drafts. And we are talking about drafts from every conceivable area of the window. I’ve done my best to add additional weather stripping, but that doesn’t even begin to stop the leakage.”
One person even posted a video on YouTube showing how the draft from his window is so strong that you can see its effect on a candle:
