Customers have complained that the touchpad becomes unresponsive, begins lagging, freezes, or generates erratic behavior without any input from the user. Some HP Omen owners say they’ve been unable to fix the touchpad issues and that their laptop is essentially unusable without an external mouse.
Now, the attorneys are investigating whether a defect is to blame and whether a class action lawsuit can be filed to help customers get their money back.
Customers Complain Online About HP Omen Touchpad Issues
Customers have complained online about issues with their HP Omen touchpads, including that they stop working intermittently, start lagging, glitch, or become unresponsive.
Many users say the issues began soon after purchasing the gaming laptop and that they haven’t found a fix for the problems.
Below is a sampling of complaints posted online [sic throughout]:
I just purchased a HP Omen 16.1 from bestbuy three days ago, the touchpad keeps becoming unresponsive or erratic, and enabling and disabling the touchpad via fn+F11 fixes it temporarily, but it keeps coming back. It seems like this is a known issue…”

I got a brand new Omen 17 for Christmas and a few days into having it the trackpad got really buggy. The only solution I have is to turn the trackpad off and on again but this usually only fixes it for a matter of seconds. I’ve resorted to having the trackpad off permanently and using a mouse, which defeats the purpose of having a LAPtop sometimes but that’s all that works. I found on Word it kept clicking onto random lines on its own and highlighting text as well. It’s so annoying for such an expensive laptop…”

I just got an Omen for work and occusional game play. Touchpad issues since day 1. It will slow down or become unresponsive until I toggle F11 (disable/enable touchpad)”

Hi, I bought a HP OMEN 16-c0500na 16.1” Gaming Laptop just a few days ago. I’ve been having a constant problem with my touchpad where it freezes/stops working randomly every 5-10 mins of scrolling. This issue started on day one. It stops scrolling as normal and the click buttons do not register. If I press FN + F11 to turn off the touchpad and turn it back on again, it works again as normal. So I feel like the touchpad is fine, the system just stops registering my commands properly for some reason. But this issue is driving me insane. Is there something I’m doing wrong or is the touchpad just faulty?...”

Just got a new HP Omen 17 and about every 15-30 minutes the trackpad becomes fairly unresponsive. Intermittent lag & left click doesn’t work. Has anybody found a solution to this? I have to either reboot or do FN+F11. HP says I can mail it in to their service center but turnaround times are at about 3 months right now. Seems abnormal for a $1400 laptop?”

Within a few days of using the laptop I encountered a track pad issue, the software was very buggy with the issue of half or none of the track pad being responsive to touch/click. Tried HP support but after BIOS and windows update the problem only accelerated…”

…The main problem I find with the laptop is the trackpad, oh my there’s many problems with it, it will consistently lag while in use, sometimes the trackpad may even glitch out and completely stop working, (happened to me three times so far), but otherwise it’s a great product other than the trackpad, that’s really the only problem…”
