- Anyone who suspects they were fired because of their gender.
Despite federal protections, lawsuits continue to be filed on behalf of women, transgender employees and others who believe they were fired because of their sex. One female pharmacist even won $2 million in a case against Wal-Mart in which she alleged that she was fired after asking to be paid as much as her male colleagues.
How Can I Tell If I Was Fired Because of My Sex?
Some signs that you may have been discriminated against because of your sex or gender include:
- You were fired for doing something your male colleagues did without being disciplined (e.g., fired for being too “aggressive”)
- You were forced to quit after your work environment became harassing, hostile and unbearable
- You were fired because you switched genders
- You were fired after telling your boss about your pregnancy
- Your employer used harassing terms or “cute” nicknames while you were working there
- You were fired after your employer placed impossible deadlines on you in an effort to prove you couldn’t do your job while taking care of a child
- You were fired after asking to be paid as much as your male counterparts
- You were fired after complaining about gender discrimination in the workplace
It has been reported that gender discrimination is particularly rampant in the technology and trucking industries.
