Acceleration Problems Reported to NHTSA, CarComplaints.com
A number of complaints have been submitted to the National Highway and Traffic Administration and posted on websites like CarComplaints.com. Some of these complaints can be found below [sic throughout]:
“I've only owned the truck 1 Month. Made my first payment one day earlier, when my wife & I were heading down a busy street with the truck getting faster & faster. First I thought the cruise control was on, so I tapped the brake. Then I tried on the steering wheel, but no go. I also put the truck in neutral, but the engine just kept reving right up so I couldn't put in park because I would have to put it through reverse.” Ken W., CarComplaints.com
“Basically, anytime I have to accelerate full throttle like entering a highway and needing to merge, or changing lanes on the highway...etc...this issue occurs nearly all the time. When I have to floor it, there is a second or so of hesitation and lag, followed by what I could really refer to as "turbulence". It's a combination of a stutter and jerk until the truck kicks into gear and accelerates. This is a significant issue because entering a merge lane on a highway can be dangerous which is why I floor it to give myself time to get in lane and not have a person have to slam on their brakes because I’m not getting up to speed.”Ramforumz.com
“After a weekend of camping I loaded up the truck and was on my way home doing approx 45-55 mph. I stop at a red light and as soon as I get a green I proceed to accelerate except I have no acceleration. I looked down and see ‘service throttle control’. My vehicle has now entered limp mode leaving me to drive 120 miles home on the interstate at 15-25 mph with very limited acceleration if any. Also 3 weeks before this I had sparatic acceleration at stoplights almost as if my truck wanted to jump into the back seat of the car ahead of me…this is a very unsafe condition and needs answers.” NHTSA ID Number: 10568338
“The contact owns a 2012 dodge ram 1500…the vehicle would often lose power or would become unresponsive to acceleration attempts. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure however, the vehicle was not repaired…the current mileage was 5,000.” NHTSA ID Number:10494736
“2014 ram 1500 sudden, unexpected acceleration from 900 rpm to approx 3,000 rpm range, while descending rough terrain at very critical low speed.” NHTSA ID Number: 10661695
