Uber Settles Driver Background Check Lawsuit

Last Updated on June 26, 2017
Uber has agreed to a settlement, putting to rest a proposed class action that claimed Uber misled its customers over how it screens its drivers. According to the lawsuit, Uber falsely claimed that it leads the industry in the quality of the background checks for its drivers. The plaintiff determined that Uber didn’t include fingerprint identification in its background checks, meaning that the checks could be incorrect and, therefore, jeopardize the safety of customers. The case was settled on an individual basis and not as a class action. The terms of the settlement remain confidential.
